Franchise.com Sold to Landmark Communications

Media Company Acquires Internet Franchise Portal for Undisclosed Amount

ENCINITAS, Calif - Franchise.com, a popular Internet lead generation portal for franchisers, announced today that it has been sold to Landmark Communications, Inc. for an undisclosed amount. Landmark is a privately-held media company specializing in television as well as print and Internet publishing.

Established in 1995, Franchise.com was one of the early pioneers of franchise lead generation portals. Lead generation portals are advertiser directories on the Internet, where potential franchise buyers can explore information from a site's advertisers who want to sell franchises. If interested, buyers then submit their name and net worth to franchiser advertisers. The prospective franchise buyer's information is then sent to the advertiser's franchise development team as a sales lead to be followed up by the franchiser.

Of the 881 that Alexa.com tracks in franchising, Franchise.com is listed as 17th most popular in traffic. Alexa, a subsidiary of Amazon.com, provides information on web traffic. It ranks the top 5 trafficked franchise websites as:

  1. FranchiseGator
  2. WSI Internet Solutions
  3. Franchise Opportunities
  4. Blue MauMau
  5. Franchise Works

In a press release, Michael Alston, President of Landmark Interactive, stated:

Franchise.com plays an important role in helping entrepreneurs realize their dreams of owning a business. We look forward to applying media resources across multiple channels to expose a broad and diverse audience to the attractiveness of owning a franchise.

President and founder of Franchise.com, Nancy Ghanem plans to focus on another franchise related company, a franchise consulting and information firm, FranServices.com.
