DALLAS –Red Mango has budded a new company bent on acquiring up restaurant franchisors. Today, the newly formed holding company and multi-brand franchisor investor, BRIX Holdings, announced the acquisition of franchising firms Smoothie Factory and RedBrick Pizza.

"BRIX Holdings is currently seeking franchisees nationally for Smoothie Factory, RedBrick Pizza and Red Mango Yogurt Café & Juice Bar," said Joe Vitrano, who has been appointed CEO of BRIX Holdings.

BRIX Holdings has named Miguel Foegal, who has been the president and chief operating officer of Red Mango, as the new president of Smoothie Factory and RedBrick Pizza. Both concepts will include new prototypes with updated interiors (see image above of the Smoothie Factory prototype).

John Antioco, director and chairman of Red Mango, and now chairman of the board for Brix Holdings, explains the raison d'être for Brix. "Recognizing that there are numerous existing brands in the marketplace that are past the initial concept stage without the necessary ingredients to capitalize on their growth potential, Brix Holdings was established to add the knowledge and resources needed to create that growth and business success," said Brix chairman Antioco.

Founded in 1996, Smoothie Factory has approximately 40 outlets that serve smoothies with real fruit and offer a selection of nutritional supplements. BRIX Holdings plans to add a line of cold-squeezed fruit and vegetable juices to enhance the experience and create additional brand awareness as a retailer of health products. The chain will also offer a co-branded opportunity with Red Mango Yogurt Café & Juice Bar.

Fast-casual restaurant franchisor RedBrick Pizza offers fire-roasted, gourmet pizza. It declined in its franchise count from 67 restaurants to 56 franchises by 2010, according to World Franchising. The franchisor has been named a hot new up and comer by a few publishers.

As part of the acquisitions, Smoothie Factory founder Jim Villasana and RedBrick founder Jim Minidis will stay on in consultant roles.

Red Mango now has almost 300 locations open across the U.S., Mexico, El Salvador and Uruguay and recently opened its first Red Mango Yogurt Café & Juice Bar in Puerto Rico.
