Franchise Job Hirings Outpace Small Business for Year, Up Yet Again in November

ROSELAND, N.J.—Private-sector franchise jobs in the United States grew by 25,600 for the month of November, according to ADP's National Franchise Report. It is yet another month of jobs in a string of growth in franchise hirings, a growth dominated by restaurants and auto dealerships.

The overall economy added 217,000 non-farm private employment jobs in November. Small business employment increased by a vigorous 81,000 jobs last month. Its pace of growth for the past year has been 2.3 percent, which nudged past the general U.S. non-farm private employment of 2.1 percent job growth. But when it comes to job hiring in the American economy, franchised establishments are blazing ahead with 4.3 percent year-over-year growth (see table below). Restaurant owners are finding it more difficult to find people to hire.

"2015 has been a year of very strong employment growth for franchises as evidenced by the fact gains have already exceeded last year by around 50,000 jobs," said Ahu Yildirmaz, vice president and head of the ADP Research Institute. "Plus, the twelve-month franchise employment growth rate of four percent is double the labor market as a whole."

Mark Zandi, chief economist of Moody's Analytics, said: "Job growth remains strong and steady. The current pace of job creation is twice that needed to absorb growth in the working age population. The economy is fast approaching full employment and will be there no later than next summer."
