Freddy’s Appoints Randy Simon as CEO

Randy SimonWichita, Kansas-based burger chain, Freddy's LLC, doing business as Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers, has appointed Randy Simon as its CEO and president.

Simon is no stranger to Freddy’s. He co-founded the quick service restaurant brand over 15 years ago with his brother Bill Simon, father Freddy Simon and business partner Scott Redler. Unfortunately, his 61-year-old brother Bill, CEO of Freddy’s, died in December after battling cancer.

Randy Simon will now head up the hamburger chain after just having completed the sale of his own 34 Panera Bread franchised locations this summer.

“Completing the sale and transfer of our 34 Panera locations this summer has freed me from the responsibilities that I was entrusted with by my Panera partners,” stated Simon. “I will now be able to focus singularly on the future of Freddy's as we move into the next chapter."

The Simons are a family who have a propensity for numbers. Randy's brother Bill was a certified public accountant. His father Freddy graduated from Wichita University with a degree in accounting. And Randy is a CPA as well.

Randy Simon comes from a background of being a franchise owner. In 1974 he co-founded Maverick Development Company to launch a Pizza Hut franchise that grew to 42 locations in Texas and New Mexico. The company was sold in 2007. Maverick also developed and sold more than 30 Rent-A-Center locations in the Chicago area between 1985 and 1992. Maverick turned to buying and developing Panera Bread franchises around Missouri and Kansas, His firm was the second group to jump in during Panera Bread’s early franchising efforts. In July of this year, America’s largest franchisee, Flynn Restaurant Group, purchased Maverick's Panera Cafes, where Simon had been serving as president and chairman of the board.

"Over the past couple of months, I've enjoyed increased exposure to our Freddy's support team and franchise family," Simon said. "They've provided me time to transition out of the last 24 years in the Panera business and the space to patch the holes left from the loss of Freddy's original CEO and my brother Bill, who passed away last December. Bill really loved Freddy's. He had a profound ability to turn challenges into advancement opportunities. He left us in a great position and we are going to build on the foundation he worked so hard to create."
