Ben & Jerry's Opens In Hawaii

Honolulu, HI - Ben & Jerry's on Friday, June 30 opened up its first ice cream parlor in Hawaii. It is the first store of several more to come. In honor of the 50th state, the store's owner, Ms. Ronni Tai See, gave away free ice cream to the first 50 people walking through the door.

"It's been a very busy first few days on this Fourth of July weekend," she told Blue MauMau.

Ms. Tai See is quoted in the Pacific Business News as choosing to open her first store in the Ward Centre, near downtown Honolulu and not far from Ala Moana Shopping Center, because "It is the hottest entertainment complex in town. Plus, all the development in that area has the potential to draw even more people to our shop."

The franchiser, Ben & Jerry's in Vermont has some 500 domestic parlors.
