ATLANTA (Blue MauMau) - A lodging industry research firm projects that the free fall from September in hotel occupancy and asset value will remain until 2010.

Mark Woodworth, president of PKF-HR, observes, "Most markets will not likely realize a quarterly increase in REVPAR until the first or second quarter of 2010."  Looking at the past 80 years and current trends, the research and consulting firm also expects capital rates to significantly rise. Woodworth paints a gloomy vision for the intermediate-term, declaring, "2009 will likely be the second of a four-year run in where the average U.S. hotel loses value."

Mark Woodworth and Jack Corgel, Ph.D, Senior Advisor of PKF Hospitality Research, give an 11 minute video (click photo) presentation that analyzes the lodging industry’s downward trend in the business cycle, how long the downturn will last, and when the turning point in this recession will occur.
