DENVER - Quiznos, a chain of some 4,000 plus subway sandwich eateries, announced on Monday that Greg MacDonald will become president of the company, effective July 7. He fills the position left by president and CEO David Deno, who left the company for personal reasons in February 2009 after five months in the position.

MacDonald began his career with Quiznos in 1998, holding senior positions in both marketing and development before being named president of Quiznos Canada in 2005.

“With more than a decade of experience at Quiznos, Greg brings unparalleled brand knowledge to this new role, and we are pleased to have his expertise benefitting franchisees system-wide,” said Rick Schaden, Quiznos chairman and CEO.

MacDonald joins the rank of president following a high turnover of executives in that office.  Since 2007 the position has gone from Steve Schaffer to Greg Brenneman, Dave Deno, Rick Schaden filled in and now to Greg McDonald. Greg Brenneman and Dave Deno moved from that position to CEO before leaving the chief executive position some months later.

Current CEO Schaden wrote in a memo on Tuesday to franchisees, “Greg’s track record as president of Quiznos Canada speaks for itself – in his four years in that role, Canadian franchise owners profits more than doubled, chain wide sales in Canada increased 20% and the total number of restaurants in Canada grew by 20%. Greg has a great understanding of our brand, its history and our in-restaurant operations.”

MacDonald responded to his new position in describing the chain’s next steps. “We will continue with our promise of offering the best tasting subs, salads and soups in the marketplace at a price that everyone in America can afford. By staying true to our core brand attributes and becoming more accessible to the average consumer, we can create the best run our franchise owners and business partners have ever seen.”

In his email, Schaden invited franchisees to attend a system wide conference call with the new president on June 16.
