Recap of 2008 Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest
NEW YORK CITY - Reigning mustard belt champion Joey Chestnut will take on six-time titleholder Takeru Kobayashi today during Nathan's annual hot dog eating contest. ESPN will televise the Coney Island event live at noon EDT. Kobayashi lost last year to Chestnut after undergoing jaw surgery. But it was close as both had to go into an over time face off. This year Kobayashi challenged Chestnut at Pizza Hut's P'Zone eat off and won.
Nathan's Famous had a website that devoted space to the event. The site was down because of "capacity problems," probably from high traffic. Nathan's is anticipating 40,000 attendees at the event.
According to Bettor's World, Joey Chestnut is slightly favored to win today.
