Bruegger's Expands to Toronto
The leading U.S. bakery gives Canadians a real bagel to chew on
(Burlington, VT – March 31, 2010) – After almost 30 years of satisfying the demanding tastes of American bagel connoisseurs, Bruegger’s announced last week that Canadians can now enjoy the taste of authentic New York-style bagels. The 292-location bagel chain will now serve its freshly baked bagels at three locations in Toronto, through co-branding with mmmuffins; a 32-unit chain that offers freshly baked cookies, muffins, breads and other bakery items, along with soups and sandwiches.
mmmuffins was acquired by Bruegger’s in November 2009, when it acquired the restaurant holdings of Timothy’s Coffees of the World, Inc.®, based in Toronto, Ontario.
To celebrate the bagel leader’s arrival in Toronto, Bruegger’s surveyed 654 morning commuters about their breakfast bagel eating habits. Fifty-six percent of respondents said they couldn’t find a good bagel in this city.
“We pride ourselves on making the most authentic New York-style bagels anywhere, and are pleased to share the centuries-old, time-tested tradition with Canadians,” said Jim Greco, CEO of Bruegger’s Enterprises, Inc (BEI).
Torontonians also declared their favorite bagel flavors are Whole Wheat (20.1%), Everything (19.6%) and Sesame (14.1%). Bruegger’s brings these mouth pleasers plus the delicious taste of classic Plain, Poppy Seed and Cinnamon Raisin to Canada with a variety of Bruegger’s premium specialty cream cheeses and traditional toppings.
Bruegger’s bagels are made with five basic ingredients – wheat flour, salt, malt, yeast and water – and are free of trans fats.
Co-branded Bruegger’s mmmuffins locations will continue to provide freshly baked muffins, cookies, croissants, danishes, soups, sandwiches and freshly ground coffee using the finest high quality ingredients, and no preservatives or additives.
