Two Lafayette-area convenience stores were held up by an armed robber Saturday, while a Lafayette fast food restaurant was the target of an attempted armed robbery, all within less than an hour, according to police and sheriff's reports. A black former franchisee of Wisconsin-based fast-food chain Culver's who says he was repeatedly blocked by the firm from opening a restaurant on Chicago's South Side can test his claims of racial discrimination at a trial, a federal judge has ruled. U.S. District Judge Thomas Durkin rejected a bid by Culver's to throw the case out, writing in an 80-page ruling that even a quick read of former franchisee Michael Wilbern's case showed that he had "sufficient evidence to support a prima facie case of intentional discrimination."
