In Paris I Chose a Franchise, Lollipops

I came to the Paris Franchise Expo to find a franchise to remember. Frankly, it is difficult choosing between some 450 exhibitors from 75 industries.

I could have chosen industries with the highest growth rate in the latest years, such as Real Estate with its 30% growth of the number of franchised units (Europeans don't peek across the ocean to see what's going on now in real estate?) or personal services, with a growth of 50%.

McJob Worries McDonald's

 McDonald's has renewed its protests of the dictionary definition for McJob, meaning unqualified low wage work that lacks career prospects. This time McDonald's intends to eliminate such negativism from British dictionaries. According to language specialists, the word was used for the first time in a U.S. journal, The Washington Post, about 20 years ago.

U.S. Stock-Index Futures Retreat; Starbucks Declines in Europe

Starbucks Corp. dropped in Europe after the world's biggest coffee-shop chain said profit fell for the first time in five years.

Starbucks said fourth-quarter profit declined 5.2 percent to $117.3 million, or 15 cents a share. Excluding some costs, earnings were 17 cents a share, meeting the estimate of John Glass, an analyst with CIBC World Markets. Sales of $2 billion missed the average Thomson Financial estimate of $2.02 billion. Starbucks dropped $2.19 to $37.24 in Germany.
