BP Gas Station Boycotts Spreading

Boycotts of BP's gas stations and convenience stores are spreading quickly, fueled by the environmental disaster caused by BP's runaway oil gusher off Louisiana's shores. But the ones who will bear the brunt of the loss in business are BP's independent operators, who are either franchisees or small regional distributors.

They are concerned.

“I would urge consumers to think about who actually gets hurt with their boycotts,” says John Kleine, executive director of BPAMA, a trade association of BP and Amoco gas station/convenience store owners and operators. "Ultimately, small, local entrepreneurs and their families are the ones who get hurt, and not necessarily BP."
