Build-out
Retail and commercial offices typically start out with locations that are not developed four walls and a door. The process of completing the physical space to store and franchise specifications is called "build-out."
For example, windows can be made into walls so that a quick printing shop's press process can be seen by customers. The franchisor's operating standards may require a small management office room, an extensive counter top system, a children's playground or a specific air duct system.
