Coffee Beanery Not To Sell Franchises in Illinois

Illinois Issues "Order of Withdrawn"

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (Blue MauMau) - According to a spokesperson for the Office of the Attorney General, the state of Illinois has issued an Order of Withdrawn for The Coffee Beanery regarding its registration to sell franchises.  The franchisor had sent in a letter recently asking that its registration be withdrawn and this order issued yesterday is a result of that request.

In a letter to Paul R. Fransway (pdf, 3 pgs, 1.17 MB), Pear Sperling Eggan & Daniels, attorney for The Coffee Beanery, dated March 29, 2007, the Franchise Examiner for the State of Illinois, Anne Connelly, stated that in order for its registration to continue to be effective the franchisor had to submit information on 21 items.  She instructed that her request had to be met within 30 days from the date of her letter.

In order to sell new franchises in Illinois, Coffee Beanery will have to reregister.  The spokesperson said the company did not give a reason why it was asking for the withdrawal, and she did not know if it had complied with Connelly's comment letter. She did say that current franchisees in Illinois who were sold franchises when Coffee Beanery was registered would not be affected.

In an attempt to find out if The Coffee Beanery was registered in Illinois, repeated phone calls were made to Mr. Fransway. He did not return the calls over the past  two weeks.
