Franchisees Name Griswold Homecare Franchisor of 2017

Griswold Home Care (GHC) has been named as the Franchisor of the Year for 2017 by the American Association of Franchisees and Dealers (AAFD).  It is well deserved. It has embraced a new, fairer franchise agreement and a culture of collaboration with the Griswold Home Care Franchisee Association (GHCFA). Those two things are the driving impetus for their recognition by AAFD.

Griswold Home Care, a company that provides non-medical at-home care services, made headlines in 2016 for successfully negotiating new franchise agreements that affirm a commitment to a common mission and shared guiding principles with its franchisees. These agreements scored above 97% in their compliance with the AAFD’s Fair Franchising Standards, one of the highest ratings in the AAFD’s history.

The organization, led by CEO Matthew Murphy, will be presented with the award at the AAFD’s Total Quality Franchising Awards banquet and gala on Tuesday, May 2, in Indian Wells, California. The Franchisor of the Year Award is given to “a franchisor that has demonstrated respect for the AAFD’s Fair Franchising Standards and excellent citizenship toward its franchisees.”

Said CEO Matthew Murphy, “Griswold Home Care is honored to receive such a distinction and to be recognized for all the work that went into 18 months of negotiation and collaboration with our franchisees and the GHCFA last year. We want to be known as a franchisor that treats our franchisees with fairness and respect, and I believe this award will help us stand out among other franchisors in our industry.”

Among the standout terms of GHC’s new franchise agreement is an acknowledgement that the success of GHC’s common mission “is dependent on GHC and our franchisees working together in a spirit of mutual respect and cooperation.” The agreements also set out guiding principles which include franchisees affirming respect for GHC’s ownership of the system and GHC committing to “respect franchisee’s ownership interest in the going concern value of the franchise, the investment in the franchise made by the franchisee, and the franchisee’s interest in a long-term durable relationship.”

Since its launch in 1982, Griswold has grown to become one of the largest and most successful non-medical homecare providers in the world. The company connects families with screened caregivers that provide a variety of services, including homemaking services, hospice care, live-in care, and respite care to clients, including seniors, individuals with disabilities, and individuals managing and/or recovering from illnesses and injuries.

CEO Matthew Murphy will be attending the AAFD’s Total Quality Franchising Awards celebration to accept the Franchisor of the Year Award on behalf of Griswold Home Care. Meg Mairn, past president of the GHCFA who was instrumental in negotiating the new franchise agreements with GHC, has been nominated for the Franchisee Member of the Year award. The awards ceremony is part of the AAFD’s 25th Anniversary Franchisee Leadership Summit and Annual Meeting, taking place April 30 to May 3 at the Renaissance Indian Wells Resort and Spa in Indian Wells, California.

Griswold Home Care will rightly be placed by franchisees on a pedestal in recognition of great franchising practices.
