Some Louisville, Kentucky hotel owners want their establishments to be a holiday destination, not just a place to stay, and they're spending millions to accomplish just that. Visitors are flocking in from as many as hundreds of miles away.
Says Bill Francis of local TV station WDRB about the downtown Galt House,
The hotel has spent more than a million dollars creating Christmas attractions that are bringing in out of town guests for overnight stays during a time of year when hotel rooms used to remain vacant.
On the opposite end of the street, the historic Brown Hotel has spent $4 million in the recently completed renovation of all of its 293 guest rooms. Hotel vice president and general manager Brad Walker strikes an optimistic note:
"We grew in 2011 over 2010," says Walker, "and now we are growing in 2012 over 2011 so it's been a very good year overall, and the Christmas season so far has been good with a lot of Christmas parties." — WDRB
