E. Coli Meat Contamination Recall Expanded

A recall of E. coli-contaminated meat from a southern California meat processing plant has been expanded, bringing the total recall to nearly 6 million tons.

The original recall was expanded based on evidence collected in an ongoing criminal investigation being conducted by the Office of the Inspector General, according to FSIS. Inspectors found the products were prepared in a manner that did not follow rules to prevent food safety hazards.

The agency also said the investigation found Huntington’s food safety records to be unreliable.

Just how bad were the practices at that meat processing plant? Articles about the recall don’t say, and don’t even mention the unsavory fact that E. coli originates from feces.

Documentaries such as Food, Inc. and news articles state that cattle and chickens spend their days in their own excrement and go to the slaughterhouse covered in the stuff. It doesn’t take much imagination to see why there are so many recalls or why U.S. meat now has to be injected or bathed in such chemicals as ammonia and chlorine.

To further bring home the fact that America has standards worthy of a third-world country, beef cattle are routinely fed chicken feces. McDonald’s is among those trying to get the practice banned.
