Franchisees Celebrate the 75th Anniversary of Prohibition Repeal

ALEXANDRIA, Va. - December 5, 2008, marks 75 years since Prohibition was officially repealed in the United States with the ratification of the 21st Amendment to the Constitution. That nullified the 18th amendment, which banned the sale, manufacture, and transportation of alcohol for consumption.

"This anniversary is a great time to recognize the success of the past 75 years of effective, state-based alcohol regulation since the ratification of the 21st Amendment," said the National Beer Wholesalers Association's President Craig Purser. "A 'one size fits all' approach to alcohol regulation during Prohibition was a failure. The 21st Amendment allows individual states to regulate alcohol as their citizens see fit."

While many franchisors are headquartered overseas, America's beer franchisees, such as Cindy McCain of Anheuser-Busch, remain dedicated to enabling all Americans to fulfill their Constitutional rights under the 21st Amendment, and engage in the pursuit of happiness (or at least a smooth lager).  As we pause today to mark one of the milestone dates in franchise history, let us go to our local Bennigan's and have a Bud (or two).
