Franchising 2009 can be a Happier New Year with Continued Development
Indeed, 2008 was a different environment for franchise seekers compared to other years of increased unemployment. As has been stated here and elsewhere, this time combines job loss with asset loss. So, based on what I've seen of late, buyers are 'somewhat' pinched into the reality of watching what they buy. (Granted, they are not sufficiently pinched into thorough investigation, but armed with a few more life lessons and the help of journals such as BMM, it's a start.)
On the other side of the fence I find even greater encouragement, meaning that new franchisor candidates are significantly more aware of risks and potential damages in all areas: financial, legal and emotional. This is good news because the devastation all begins in this sector.
Certainly there is much to accomplish if franchising is to grow into the giant of good that it is capable of in maturity, but there is no shortage of insight and talent found here to make goodness a reality. As always, my goal will continue to be nothing short of industry quality, and I see that path growing in popularity.
Good luck, good health, and clear thinking to all who love the chase.
