Franchisor

Also spelled franchiser. A firm that sells to others the right to sell or rent its products / services and to use its name. In other words, a franchisor is the owner of a franchising company -- the entity that grants candidates the right to operate under its trade marks.

A franchisee typically is under contractual obligation to follow the operation and product standards of the franchisor. A franchisee may change an aspect of the service or product only after submitting changes to be reviewed.
