Futurist Dan Burrus Talks Technology
On how consumers will be soon shopping virtually in your store:
" . . . the Web is going to become 3-D fairly soon. We’ll have a 3-D Web browser, and how do I know that? I already have a prototype, so obviously, if I’ve already got one then we’re not that far from it, and you don’t have to wear 3-D or special glasses." . . . It would be pretty easy for me to go to that restaurant and actually see the restaurant in high definition, it doesn’t have to be a crummy animation. I can zoom in on the foods that I want. I can see a chicken burrito. I’m actually looking at the chicken burrito as it should look."
We know what's coming fast in phone technology because Europe is already using it.
"The phone is actually going to have a chip embedded in it, which is going to be your American Express or whatever credit card you have. Already in Europe you can go up to a vending machine and buy things with your phone."
Burrus, one of the New York Times top-three business gurus, thinks using high definition cameras instead of the current crop is the way to go in helping keep employees honest. HD is already here but according to Burrus will be very affordable within two years.
"Since we have high turnover, and in some places we’re not sure about the level of trust we have with everybody, if they all know it’s high definition, that right there is helping. What you want to do is keep honest people honest. And you want to make it not easy."
On voice recognition technology that can take orders . . .
" . . . we’re already within a year or so of 99 percent. That’s pretty good. I think the key once again is asking where you need it."
This is a great look into more technology that is quickly coming to your chain store. Read the full details at:
