How To Avoid Being Treated As a Spammer

Blue Maumau has active spam filters - both in the form of an impersonal robot and human (well, ok, technically, a fish).

Q: My post doesn't appear. Now what?

Should your posting not appear immediately on the site, please email Mr. Blue MauMau (editor@bluemaumau.org) to let him know that you are a real human being. If you do not contact him, he will review the post to determine if it is meant to disrupt the site's discussions, advertise or if it is even human generated.

Q: How come my posting is considered a spam?

A spam by its nature is a disruptive posting on sites. Academics argue about what constitutes spam but Mr. Blue MauMau knows it when he sees it. Our robot is not always quite so spot on.

Some postings on this site are using a format that our mean, automated, impersonal filters have been programmed through time to catch as spam. For example, watch the "ch**n*ng" word. By itself it is an important franchise concept, but because of past abuse, our filters now keep an eye out for it.

You'll know when you've activated our robot filter because your post will not immediately post.

Don't pretend to be other guests. Postings in which guests try to mock being other guests will be removed.

Nonsensical strings are another. Short postings that do not relate to a blog or a thread are flagged as strong spam suspects. A posting that is completely unrelated to the thread is a good identifier of spam. For example, if an article and discussion thread is on arbitration, a post of "Isn't the Barbie and Ken doll just the coolest thing in franchising?" is a hint that spamming is at work.

I will review such posts and decide whether they are real postings or not in due time. While we value all opinions at Blue MauMau, we are nonetheless very vigilent on spam and malicious software. We have learned by sad experience that not everyone wants this site to thrive.

Spam Attack

Blue MauMau has been under a spam attack for the past 12 hours. Our anti-spamware, in which we have added to significantly over the months, is doing remarkably well in keeping the comments from being published. For our readers, this is not related to a virus or personal email. These are simple posts meant to fill our forum and comment areas, Blue MauMau, with nonsensical gibberish, and prevent readers from meaningful dialog. Fortunately, this is all happening behind the scenes and has not impacted our site at all.

But the spammer should be made aware that we are on to it. Such activity is illegal and should cease immediately.

Bring order to this forum and require anonymous registration

You show your stubborness and and closemindedness by refusing to recognise that your position on not requiring ANONYMOUS registration is untenable.

I will register once it becomes a prerequisite for posting.

Backdoor Censorship

If it is true that Mr. Blue Mau Mau has prevented the posting of V's response to Michael Seid, this is indeed censorship but did Mr. Blue Mau Mau censor V's response because she was slandering Mr. Seid or franchising?

Didn't Mr. Seid invite V's response by his very long post that informed V that he was not involved in any conspiracy and that there was no conspiracy, etc...
Why should this response be censored through the use of the "Spam" detector?

Probably one of the coffee morons

We've been dissin the coffee morons for a few days. Maybe they reached their limit of publicity/exposure and need to decaffeinate. If you think drinking that stuff will make you jittery, try investing in it.

By the way - while we're on the subject - if you want the absolute greatest cuppa coffee you ever drank, try the following:

1 pound each of Starbuck's French Roast, Italian Roast, Verona Roast and Yukon blend beans.

Mix em up together and rebag 'em.

Each mornin, grind yo own self some of that mix and make yo morning coffee.

It's also fantastic after dinner if you drink coffee after dinner.

V's response to Michael Seid's posting is here. Our spam filter function didn't like a couple of the words in it and waited for me to approve it.

We're Whacking 'Em

We have been whacking the spammer but he keeps coming back for more. Loves pain.

He has gotten through the math problems and through several filters. We are fine-tuning our nets to drag him out.

Solution

Instead of simple arithmetic, why not calculus?  Would weed out a lot of anonymous guests I suppose, but sometimes you have to break a few eggs to make those omelettes.

Calcu-less

It's been many years since I last used calculus. I'm afraid yours truly might get broken in making this omelette of ours. And then where would we be?

CALCULUS

I can't do it. I wish I could, but I am a liberal arts person with liberal arts limitations.

Won The Battle

No need for calculus to screen the bots from the humans. In the spam war, this battle has been won by freedom lovers this day. And defenses are now beefed up.
