Iceland's Economy Freezes Over

How will Icelanders get through those long winter nights when McDonald’s shutters its restaurants in the island nation in the next few days? Will they have to airlift victims of Big Mac attacks to London?

The three McDonald’s restaurants in Iceland will close at midnight on Oct. 31 because of surging costs as a result of the country's economic collapse over the past year. All three stores are in the country's capital, Reykjavik.
