A decision in the multi-year dispute over the status of FedEx Ground workers gives guidance on the current status of US law.

The court was asked to rule on whether the workers were employees or independent contractors. It found that the degree of control exercised by FedEx rendered the workers as contractors. Of particular note is the state-by-state review which the court was obliged to provide; it serves as a concise review of US law as of December 2010.
