Great interview.

These guys shut down when the seasons get cold? I wonder if the landlords are kind enough not to charge rent when there's no revenue? Interesting business model.

Rita's Water Ice doesn't sell ice to eskimos

Thanks for your comments. There area a number of real estate options, Rita's is utilizing: some of the franchisees are purchasing the land, others are negotiating annual rent amounts payable in 8 monthly payments.

The important thing is that the company is not forcing the franchisees to make money where there is none to be made "selling ice to eskimos".

Won't Sell Ice To Eskimos

I understand Rita's reluctance to sell ice to eskimos; hence, they will close down when the thermometer dips. It just seems to me that eskimos could use a bowl of hot soup and a sandwich for those cold winter days when they are building their igloos with all that free ice. They might even pay a premium for it.
