Joel Libava's Top 10 Franchise Picks Of 2008!

My selection criteria for a Top 10 Franchise List is totally different from a certain magazine that we all have come to love, trust, and discuss under the sheets. A lot of you who know me pretty well, know how I tend to look at things. {Which makes me at least the VP, or COO of FranchiseSkepticism Inc. A non for profit entity...not to be confused with Guppy's, MLM Express, or franNot, all for profit entities with superb business models and ethical owners.}

Here they are:

1. 4-Five   This convenient  store concept  is designed for the franchise owner that wants lots of flexibility. The hours are from 4pm till 5pm. Of course the customers need to be pretty flexible with their shopping habits also. Total Investment of $250k includes all inventory, 2-30 second hot dog grilling machines and membership into the elite Skoal Chew Buyer's Consortium.

2. Tubway  The developers of this newer concept hope to open 17,000 stores by 2012. This submarine sandwich franchise will feature customer weigh stations at each register, and built in fat gram counters at the exits. Potential franchisees must go through a grueling all you can eat buffet road trip that covers 20 states in a 1 week period, to be considered for franchise ownership.

From the doghouse. Dear Don,

 I am feeling very confused this morning. {Yes, i AM drinking real coffee!}

How can you, as the editor of BMM, in good conscience move my really important and insightful Top 10 list to the "humor" section?

Who do you think I am, the editor of Entrepreneur Magazine?

As a matter of fact, this list is just as real as all of the other lists that Entrepreneur Magazine writes, when they rank franchises. Next thing you know, Frannet will be listed as a top 10 New Franchise. GEEZ!

Joel

What we all have to understand is that Joel is a failed franchise broker. He now has to resort to humorous attacks on the industry. Very classy Joel.

BTW, your article is very funny.

Failed broker better than successful weasel

 I believe "failed franchise broker" is still quite a few steps further from the pimordial ooze than "successful cowardly weasel posting personal attacks as Guest" and substantially further still than "highly successful franchise broker."*

At least Joel posts under his real identity**.  Plus, as the Franchise King there's a good chance he'll have impersonators imitiating him in Vegas (or at least at the IFE).

Ever heard of a Guest impersonator?  I think not.

[Name Withheld by Request ]

* Franchise brokers who benefit me monetarily excluded

** At least his "official" identity per the FTC franchise witness protection program

Thanx, Guys

Thanx a LOT, Sean.

And thank you, guest.

It means a lot...

Failed franchise insult

Is "failed franchise broker" meant as an insult or a compliment?
That's about as insulting as having gotten kicked out of the Gestapo for kindness. Or kicked out of the IFA for being fair to franchisees.

Guess Joel will just have to settle for being a successful human being.

Thank You, Guest

 Thank You, Guest!

May I have another?

Mean Brokers

Me thinks someone who works with Joel's old employer, FranNet, is maybe not so happy with Joel's growing success, fame and franchise humor.

Me Thanks You, Mr. Frankman

 Thank you for that, Bob.

That was my first thought, also. Not the "fame, success" stuff. the angry guy or gal from FranNot.
