Local Resident and Editorial Designer Starts New Franchise
Philadelphia Mom Leaves Steady Job to Pursue Dream of Franchise Business
PHILADELPHIA, (October 25, 2010) – Lisa Zollinger, formerly an editorial designer with the Philadelphia Inquirer, announced today her new business venture: Buying the 100th franchise from Young Rembrandts, the international franchise that teaches children the power of drawing.
“While I loved my job at the Philadelphia Inquirer, I decided to pursue new passions by combining my love of art with owning a small business,” said Zollinger, the newest franchisee for Young Rembrandts. “I’m looking forward to bringing this quality art program to schools and community centers in the greater Philadelphia area.”
Zollinger noted her family – her husband of 10 years and five-year-old son – are fully supportive and excited about this opportunity.
Young Rembrandts (www.youngrembrandts.com) is a time-tested and award-winning business with quality art curriculum in schools across the country. Young Rembrandts currently is in 30 states and 11 countries. In the past, Entrepreneur Magazine honored Young Rembrandts as one of the top “Low-Cost Franchises” in the arts category.
“We’re thrilled to expand into the Philadelphia area and Lisa’s passion for art is one of the main reasons we’re happy to have her onboard,” said Bette Fetter, founder and CEO of Young Rembrandts. “We continue to grow as an after-school program to augment many of the art programs that are sadly cut due to the economy.”
For the past five years, Zollinger taught publication design in the journalism department at Temple University. She received her bachelor’s of fine arts in graphic design from Syracuse University in New York in 1985. Her work was recognized by The Society for News Design, The Society of Publication Design, and PRINT Magazine.
More about Young Rembrandts
For more than 20 years, Young Rembrandts has taught the power of drawing to children. It partners with day care centers, pre-schools, elementary schools and community recreation centers to supply or augment the current art program offerings. Young Rembrandts teaches drawing, the fundamental skill of all visual arts to children aged 3 to 12. The proprietary method and step-by-step curriculum dispels the myth that art is a talent a child has or doesn’t have, and demonstrates that art can be learned by all children.
In 2000, Bette and her husband, Bill Fetter, franchised Young Rembrandts Inc. Currently, Young Rembrandts teaches about 30,000 students each week nationwide. The goal, Fetter notes, is to reach at least 200,000 students across the nation through parent-funded programs.
