Making Downsizing into a Plus
Laying off workers is a most unpleasant task for business owners. But what happens after the layoffs? The natural inclination is to assign the vacated jobs to the remaining employees who worked most closely with the departed workers. In a January 2003 Business Week article, Dennis LaRosee, senor vice-president at Praendex, says this may not be the best move. Instead, he counsels, "Resist the impulse to put the wrong people in key positions . . . .”
