McDonald's Franchises Raided by Immigration
More than 56 Arrests of Suspected Illegal Immigrants at 11 Nevada Restaurants
RENO, Nev. - U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested at least 56 workers after raids at the franchise office and 11 restaurants around the Reno area of Nevada.
Richard Rocha, a spokesperson for the franchise office told The Associated Press, "They are people suspected of being in the country illegally. As far as I know, they were all McDonald's employees."
McDonald's Corporation distanced themselves from the franchise owners. Lisa Howard, a spokeswoman for the Oak Brook, Illinois-based chain, said the company had no comment on the arrests. "This is a local situation with a local operator," she said.
Luther Mack, who owns at least some of the restaurants that were raided, insisted that his businesses require employees to provide documentation.
"As an employer, I do not knowingly hire or employ undocumented or unauthorized workers," Mack said in a statement.
