New Zealand annouce Regulation Review
Following on from the Australian Inquiry, New Zealand has now announced a Review of Franchising Regulation. However I sense that they want to copy existing “best practice” wherever they can find it. Has anyone seen any?
Commerce Minister Lianne Dalziel; “I have initiated this review to see whether there are any issues in the franchising sector that make a case for franchise-specific regulation (as they have in Australia, for example), particularly to give more protection to franchisees," she said.
“Public perception: the public's confidence in the franchising sector may have been damaged following the cases which involve alleged fraud. It is important that there is confidence in the sector so that high quality business men and women are attracted to the sector, allowing it to continue to grow and prosper.” This is the Achilles heel of franchising.
