Franchises Visiting Angels, Bennigan's and Firehouse are finding dealing with ObamaCare difficult, writes Kate Rogers of FOXBusiness.
Don Fox, Firehouse Subs CEO, says franchisees of five units or more will gather together in February to discuss how the new health care law affects them. Says Mr. Fox,
" If [a franchisee] is in a five-store agreement, for our brand, opening restaurant number five means the mandate will apply. In essence, what I have done is put my entire investment for restaurant number five toward offering paying for health care. So why open it?" — FOXBusiness
Visiting Angels' general manager Dan Drennen says that many multiunit franchisees are putting their expansion plans on hold.
“The cost becomes exponentially greater,” Drennen said. “They are subject to the ACA and it’s a law of diminishing returns.” — FOXBusiness
