Only the Focused Will Survive 2009!

What do Richard Wagoner and Robert Nardelli have in common?

  1. They are CEOs of General Motors and Chrysler, respectively.
  2. On behalf of their companies, both have asked US taxpayers for billions of dollars.
  3. As leaders and managers, both have clearly lost their way.
As the final days of the first quarter of 2009 are right around the corner, it is imperative, leaders and managers of companies, divisions, and departments, clearly focus on surviving 2009 and beyond. With that in mind, what three things can be done today that will help make tomorrow possible? Well, here’s my answer to this question. Please submit yours in the comments section below.
  1. Have a plan and know your goals and objectives. Know who will help you achieve the goals by making sure they understand what’s in it for them. Understand your resources when planning. Make sure your plan is accurate; nothing’s worse than achieving your goals and objectives only to find you missed the mark to begin with.
  2. Think outside-the-box in developing the plan and executing the same. Traditional execution may not be enough in tumultous times. Have full conviction in execution of your plan and get at it with all the gusto you can manage. Persist until you succeed as failure is not an option.
  3. Know when to change course if things aren’t falling into place. If thinking outside-the-box isn’t working, then create a new box. Use your original plan as the road map to make sure you know when you’re off course. Always focus on your goals and objectives.
