Original Carvel Store Closes

Thomas Carvel's original store that was started in 1936 in Hartsdale, New York is closing. The site is where Carvel's ice-cream truck had a flat tire on a hot day in 1934 and local Hartsdale residents clamored for his ice cream. Not so much anymore.
Franchise owner Abdol Faghihi has said things have been tough since the late 1990s when competitors moved in and Carvel products became widely available in supermarkets. [LoHud.com]
Carvel began franchising ice-cream stores in 1947.
