OXXO cheaters, ops sorry OXXO cleaners ...

One day I was explaining my kid how an electricity meter worked. There were several meters on the wall and we noticed one that was spinning faster than the Olympic gold medal in ice skating ...
My kid called it the electricity sucker. There were the name of the stores at the top, and we broke up laughing because the big spinner was from the environmentally friendly OXXO Cleaners. It turned out be a good lesson for him on "don't believe in ads".

stay away from this franchise

unless you like to lose money

please detail...

I have done some research and found a lot of controversy regarding this franchise. It seems many store owners are very unhappy with oxxo system. I am considering opening a dry cleaning franchise. I kind of like their approach, but I gotta say I am really curious about the amount of bad reviews oxxo has. Would you mind clarifying why you say that oxxo=lose money? thanks in advance.

True

I visited a store that was for sale. It is a nice store, but I agree with all that is being said here. OXXO cleaners is green on the outside, but man, there is a lot of waste on that shop to make it look nice ...

interesting quote from a franchisee

"if you think it sucks, try to immagine being here as a franchisee"

Don't advestise ECO just to fool people

I don’t understand where does OXXO get the green label from. Their machines need 3 times more electricity than a regular dry cleaning. I have a friend at FPL that confirmed that to me. They don’t recycle hangers, paper and any plastic in general. They want to fool the customers, making them believe they are paying more to protect the environment. For the ones that study a little about energy conservation and material recycling, you can see that they are miles away from a eco-Shop moving in the wrong direction on several areas. One day that cover is gonna fall …

pasted article

It’s not an easy business for a start-up, asserts Jon Meijer, vice president of membership for the International Fabricare Institute, based in Silver Spring, Md., the leading trade group for dry-cleaners. These business owners cope with long hours and slim margins. People don’t wear fancy dry-clean-only clothes as much as they did in decades past, which has hurt sales. Moreover, there are about 32,000 dry-cleaners in the U.S., he points out. “There’s too much competition,” he says. “It’s that simple.”

a joke

This is absolutely the worst dry cleaner I have ever used... and this is coming from an ex-New Yorker. Every possible thing that could ever go wrong with a dry cleaner has happened to me with this place. First of all, I constantly have to leave notes with my clothing when I drop it off asking them to do heavy starch on my shirts because despite the fact that I have asked countless times for them to note that preference on my account I still get my shirts back without any starch. Furthermore, they very frequently send dress pants back with the CENTER CREASE IN THE PANTS IRONED OUT! Who in the world would ever do such a thing? I've never in ten years had a dry cleaner make this mistake once, let alone repeatedly. Their little automatic retrieval device is handy, but it would be a LOT more handy IF IT EVER WORKED. On five separate occasions now I've gone to retrieve my clothing and could not because the machine wasn't working. The "Tech Support" people at OXXO won't help you with this location either. Instead they tell you to call the owner, who's cell phone is always conveniently off. Why is the Tech Support number even listed on this location if they can't support it??? I've also had repeated incidents of lost clothing as well as getting other people's clothing (either some or altogether). My partner manages a gym and frequently gets grease and other stains on his work khaki's. OXXO has never failed once to make the stains worse and spread them around. Unbelievable. OXXO is a nightmare and the owner and franchiser both refuse to do anything to make it better. I'll never use this or any other OXXO location ever again

Dry Cleaners

What about other dry cleaners like Comet and Martinizing? What is the thought on how those companies conduct their business and treat their franchisee community?

Comet

I heard Comet is more serious on the partnership franchisor / franchisee. They have more accurate estimates and provide better support.

Not much info

I didn't hear as many bad things as I heard from OXXO cleaners, but I didn't hear very nice things either. Sorry, not much info about them.

valid lesson

I visited one Oxxo store that is for sale. The franchisee convinced me that buying an existing business is the only way to go, specially with Oxxo. Oxxo tells people that the store costs $400k, but later on, you end up spending up to $700k. He told me the franchise sales director, Jamie, is as persuasive as he is a lier. And I believe him. Indeed, it's not his job to tell you about all the things that can and will go wrong with new stores. The franchisees are pretty pissed with Oxxo exactly because of the high cost of the store compared with the low profits. That is why most stores are for sale. When opening a new store you are exposed to a great variety of problems, including permits, problems with store construction, and of course, building you clientele, which can take up to 2 years or more. You can easily reach the $1 million dollar mark if you plan to open a new Oxxo. Kind of expensive, isn't it? I gave up buying a dry cleaning business, but if I would, I would definetly go for an existing and estabilished store.

indeed, something's wrong with oxxo

I am doing some reserach to buy a franchise. I liked the approach Oxxo cleaners have. I asked a franchisee about how good Oxxo is. He told me everything was fantastic. Later on, I found out that his store is for sale. I will never ask again a business owner about how good his business is. A lot of people do that, and it's a big mistake.

Not Eco-Friendly at all

Unfortunately OXXO is too worried about "the looks". They want to be seen as eco friendly. They say that so you feel better about dry cleaning your clothes. Yes, they don't use the bad chemicals, but that's it. They don't recycle plastic, hangers, they don't use less plastic, shop requires a 300 amp connection, they have a skyrocket electricity bill, etc. They just do enough to fool you. Most of their shops are in South Florida and the majority of them are for sale. Why most of the francisees want to sell? Are they tired of making money and want to give the opportunity to somebody else?

The looks

You are right - OXXO Cleaners only have the looks. Nothing works, their auto machine is crap. I don't know what is the problem, but they can't get my stuff right. The owner blames the franchisor the costs are too high, machines are not easy to operate and the customer is the one that suffers. I am done with them.

OXXO is the best out there , especially the one I go to !!!

While i work as a paralegal, drycleaners is where i spend a lot of time. I have tried pretty much all of them. I here a lot of negatives here, but people who actually know drycleaners(my uncle owned on one on bird road) know that OXXO is truly fantastic! Let me adress the electricity issue; while true that OXXO's machines might consume more energy it doesnt take away anything from the FACT that they don't use toxic chemicals or especially PERC to dryclean your clothes. To all of you who truly follow "green" know that their GREENEARTH solvent is biodegradeable silicone versus the petroleum perc. I have been going to the one in Aventura and now the one in Coral Gables next to Sunset Place since I moved. They are all individually owned so this location does recycle all hangers, even if they can't use it in their store. And all stores do vary in cleanliness this one is crisp and clean, these owners are very knowledgeable and you can appreciate it unlike the other cleaners! Remember, the owners are responsible for their own stores so just becauses you see one dirty OXXO doesnt mean their all that way. One day they went as foare as coming and opening up after my credit card didnt work so i couldnt use the 24 hour door but they came from their house just so i could get my clothes for travel. Like everything they might use more energy but they are definitely the "greenest" cleaner when it comes to them cleaning with the best environmentally safe stuff. That's what counts for me and my family!!! Hooray for my OXXO, I will never change.

More Electricity = More Pollution

Think of all the extra coal FPL is burning to get the electricity for your "green" crispy clean clothes.
