Pickers Picket Outside of Burger King

Tomato Pickers Say They Want One Cent More Per Pound Picked

FORT MYERS, Fla. - A group of tomato pickers picketed outside a Fort Myers, Florida Burger King saying that they "want the chain to pay their farm worker one penny more than their current wage".

"You don't get paid by hour. You have to pick around two tons of tomatoes in a normal day in order to make the minimum wage of Florida," said farm worker Gerargo Reyes."

A local station, KNBC-2, covered the story and shows a video of the picketers holding signs such as "If Taco Bell can pay, so can Burger King" or "BK tomato pickers need justice now, 1¢ more / lb."

Nearly 30 people, including friends and family members of The Coalition of Immokalee Workers participated.

A spokesperson for Burger King said that it wasn't up to them to meet their demands in that the farm workers are not employed by the corporation.

Peter Piper Picks a Peck

The question I want to ask is:

How many pickled tomatoes did Peter the picketer pick if Peter Picketer could pick a peck of pickled tomatoes?

But refrained because I realized that was silly. One doesn't pick pickled tomatoes.

Ton of Tomatoes

If their demands were met at one cent per pound, then... ... if Trisha Tarko tended a ton of tomatoes in twenty-four, then Trish Tarko would tally twenty dollars truly.
