Quiznos Makes Top Five Shrinking Chains

Although Quiznos made the annual QSR 50 list of top-grossing quick-service restaurants in the country, the Denver-based sub sandwich shop had the largest decrease in total units of any chain named.

Quiznos ranked No. 21 generating what industry consultant Technomic Inc. estimated as $1.43 billion in US system wide sales at 3,103 locations. In listing the five Colorado fast-food chains, the Denver Business Journal reported

But those sales fell from an estimated $1.78 billion in 2009, and Quiznos decreased its number of units by 600 nationwide — more than five times the 107-unit reduction of KFC, the restaurant chain on the list that ranked second in number of units reduced. And Quiznos dropped from No. 18 in the 2010 rankings.

Other Colorado chains listed in the top-five ranking were Chipotle with $1.84 billion with 1084 nationwide locations; Boston Market with $513 million sales and 491 US units; Qdoba with$480.8 with 525 locations; and Einstein Bros. Bagels generated $400 million in system wide sales at 583 locations.
