Quiznos' Outside Counsel to Leave DLA Piper

CHICAGO (Blue MauMau) - According to sources, Fredric A. “Ric” Cohen, the lead outside counsel for Quiznos’ Subs in a variety of lawsuits involving franchisee disputes, informally announced today that he would be leaving DLA Piper next week. In the email sent to ABA Listserve, Cohen said DLA Piper had been his home for nearly two decades, but now he and Amy Cheng, also of DLA, would be forming Cheng Cohen LLC in Chicago.  He said, “I have been blessed to have had the opportunity to learn from and work with the many outstanding lawyers (and people) at DLA Piper.  I plan on putting that learning to good use.”

When asked if DLA Piper would continue to represent the sub sandwich franchisor, Quiznos’ issued a statement saying, “We do not anticipate any changes at this time with regard to our legal representation; though at the end of the day, our goal is to make sure that Quiznos is fairly and effectively represented.”

Last week Quiznos’ announced that Richard J. Emmett would take on the role of executive vice president and chief legal counsel starting May 1.
