Restaurant Failure Rate Lower Than Thought

The common business wisdom that restaurants fail as 90 percent to 95 percent in the first year is flat wrong, according to researchers at Ohio State University. A longitudinal study of restaurants found the failure rate for restaurants was 57 percent to 61 percent for a three-year period from 1996-1999. That compares favorably with other types of businesses.
