Restaurants Targeted by Reservation Scammers
Operators of some of the top restaurants in Georgia, Florida, California and New York have discovered that they have been victims of reservation scammers. Unbeknownst to them, people affiliated with the website 911reservations.com were making multiple reservations on speculation for Valentine’s Day, perhaps the busiest night of the year for the restaurants. The reservations were then offered for sale for $50 - $100 each on Craig’s List. If they weren’t sold, the restaurants were thought to most likely be left holding the bag with empty tables on a jam-packed night when other would-be customers had been turned away.
The site has since been taken down and authorities are looking into the matter.
NBC Bay Area says "reservation scalpers" are nothing new.
