CEO Bloss Talks about Hospitality's Kickback Problem

Raining Money

LAS VEGAS—CEO Roger Bloss spoke with Blue MauMau about the problems of bribes and kickbacks in the hotel industry during his company’s annual conference a year ago in Las Vegas. A 40-year veteran of the hotel industry, Bloss is the CEO, president and founder of Vantage Hospitality Group, the holding company for economy hotel chain America’s Best Value Inn and the mid- to upper-scale Lexington brand. Vantage has quickly grown to be the eighth largest hotel company in the world in property count – over 1,100 hotels.

In this podcast, Bloss recalls the time he refused an attempted bribe from a would-be vendor.

A vendor is on Easy Street if a licensor mandates that licensees buy products solely from that vendor. Vantage stands apart from franchising competitors in that its members vote on and direct just about everything that impacts them, including who will be the brand’s vendor.
