Shakey Past for Shakey's

CEO Wants to Leverage Nostalgia to Help Give Shakey's Brand a Rebirth

Once known for it’s PizzaBeer and Jazz – Shakey’s Pizza Parlors grew & grew and then all but disappeared, leaving many with only fond memories.  Can the brand now be reborn and return to its once mighty position as a leader in pizza?

Tim Pulido thinks so, and he has taken on the task.  In February of 2006, Pulido, a 14-Year Pizza veteran was appointed as Shakey’s new CEO.  In a recent interview with Pizza Marketplace Puildo said “There is an enormous amount of warmth and nostalgia, and fond memories, about the brand that people tap into.  It is amazing.  Everyone has a Shakey’s story.”  Pulido hopes to leverage the nostalgia into a rebirth of the Shakey’s brand.

There were 325 U.S. locations in 1974 when the company was acquired by Hunt International.  This number has gradually declined to just 62 locations in the U.S last year and all but 7 being in California.
