Shane Talks about Shane’s Rib Shack
A slimmer Shane Thompson, founder of Shane's Rib Shack, appears on a video and speaks to restaurant reporter Judy Kneiszel of QSR Magazine about his franchise plans.
Franchising since 2004, the eight-year old Shane's Rib Shack was acquired by Raving Brands in 2005 with the hopes of quickly selling franchises nationally. It didn't. Barbeque ribs tend to have a regional taste and appeal. It then was acquired by Petrus Brands in 2009 from then legal and liquidity-challenged Raving Brands.
Thompson told QSR that Shane’s will continue to grow, especially in the South.
We don’t want to stretch too far, because then distribution becomes a challenge,” he says. “We would go a bit farther out with multiunit operators, but we’re not in a big hurry.
What does Thompson consider "not in a big hurry?" According to the article, the chain plans to open an additional 15 Shane's Rib Shack locations next year, a 22% growth in 2011 from its current base of 69 stores.
At the same time we’ll be ramping up our support and operations,” Thompson says. “We’re still a young brand. We have a lot of great things going for us, but we don’t want to grow too fast. We want to make good real estate decisions. We’re going to manage our growth plan.
