The Butt of the Joke, I mean Ad.
Jack In The Box is known for it's sometimes controversial promotional advertising. It all started more than 20 Years ago when they blew up the box? But have you seen the latest Jack In The Box commercial introducing their new 100% sirloin burger? It made me LMBO (laugh my butt off).
It seems that CKE Restaurants Inc. parent to Carl's Jr. & Hardee's have seen the commercial and they are not laughing. CKE has filed a suit to stop the ads. CKE says the ads are misleading consumers into thinking that the meat used by Jack In The Box in the sirloin burger is a better quality product than that used by Carl's and Hardee's in their Angus burgers.
The commercial shows Jack, standing in front of a cow diagram while Jack In The Box Executives are laughing hysterically over the word "Angus". One of the executives asks Jack to point that part of the cow from where Angus meat comes from. Jack replies "I'd rather not". The executive who asked then uses his pen to make an imaginary circle in the air while saying the word Angus.
CKE chief executive Andrew F. Puzder said "They're not being funny. They need to stop misleading people about what Angus beef is." CKE is not totally innocent of running its own share of controversial ads, remember last years steamy Paris Hilton commercial where she's washing her car while eating a burger?
NOTE: Both McDonalds and Burger King also serve Angus beef burgers. Angus is a breed of cattle, sirloin is a cut of meat found on all cattle.
I don't know about you, but the next time I'm ordering an Angus burger or a big thick juicy Angus steak I may say "Ahhh on second thought let's make that a double cheese burger or a ribeye ... anything but Angus...
