Wendy's domestic sales in 2011 have passed up former #2 burger chain giant, Burger King Holdings Inc. That is according to Chicago-based researcher Technomic, Inc.
The researcher says that Wendy's U.S. system wide sales in 2011 were $8.5 billion versus $8.4 billion for Burger King. Those numbers are dwarfed by giant McDonald's Corporation at $34.2 billion in domestic sales.
Bloomberg's Leslie Patton observes, "Burger King has attempted to gain market share and turn around declining same-restaurant sales in North America by revamping its menu with new French fries and soft-serve ice cream. 3G Capital Inc. bought Burger King in 2010 for about $3.93 billion."
