Wingstop Tops Nation’s Restaurant News Ranking

National wing chain experiences 20 percent increase in sales growth over previous year

RICHARDSON, Texas – Nation’s Restaurant News has unveiled its ranking of the Second 100 chains and Wingstop continues to fly high. One of the fastest growing chains in the nation, Wingstop was listed the number one chain in the Systemwide Sales Growth category.

According to the publication’s research data, the chain also moved up 26 spots to 139 based on U.S. Systemwide Foodservice Sales, the largest percentage increase of any chain on the Second 100 list. Wingstop reached $306.6 million in sales at the end of 2009, a 20.05 percent increase over the previous year.

Wingstop first entered the annual list in 2008 at 187 and moved to 165 in 2009.

The chain is also expanding its national presence. Wingstop opened 45 locations in 2009 and 24 stores to date in 2010, including the 50th locations in Houston and Los Angeles. Nation’s Restaurant News Second 100 ranked Wingstop at number four for Total Unit Growth.

In addition to the Nation’s Restaurant News ranking, Wingstop was recently listed as a “Contender” on QSR Magazine’s Top 50 ranking of quick-service restaurants, coming in at number 56 on the list.

“At a time when many chains are experiencing a drop in sales and decreasing expansion efforts, Wingstop is continuing to report positive growth and opening new stores regularly,” said Jim Flynn, Wingstop CEO. “We look forward to opening our 500th location and entering the Nation’s Restaurant News Top 100 and the QSR Top 50.”
