7-Eleven Acquires Mobil Australia

7-Eleven Australia, has acquired the Mobil Oil Australia retail fuels business increasing network numbers from 400 to more than 650.

7-Eleven is now the market leader in convenience retailing and the largest independent fuel retailer in Australia.

The deal comes after the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission blocked a $300 million bid from oil giant Caltex to purchase Mobile's stores, saying it would hinder competition and drive up petrol prices. SmartCompany

7-Eleven plans significant upgrades by the end of 2011 to most of the 295 Mobil company-owned or leased service stations.

This is also great news for our existing franchisees, as it will bring supply chain efficiencies and greater buying and marketing power for 7-Eleven.  Warren Wilmot, 7-Eleven's Australian CEO
