Diswasher to Franchisee x100

If you like franchisee success stories, this months QSR cover story is a must read.  You can read a portion on the QSR website.  It's appropriately titled: THE SPECIALIST.

Born in Pakistan, Aslam Khan came to America as a young adult and began washing dishes at Churches Chicken.  Today, Khan is CEO of Falcon Holdings the largest Churches franchisee with more than 100 units and plans to double this year.

Some Bluemaumau guest will quickly pickup on and I'm sure comment on the fact that Khan has built his franchise network by acquiring many distressed franchised units.  This is true.   Others are going to pickup on the fact that here's a SMART OPERATOR.  He understand the business.  He understands the people.  He understands what he wants and how to get it.

Any franchisee who might be struggling can learn from Kahns 3-step cure of Inform, Influence & Engage.  Every franchisee and Franchisor should take note of Khan's philosophy...

"See, I believe I’m not in the chicken business.  I’m in the people business.  I take care of my people, the ones who take care of the chicken business—cooking, cleaning, and serving.  If you ignore those people, they’ll ignore your customer."

Don't just take note of it, write it on a stone, and put in your pocket!!!  A lot of different factors go into success in business, but it's a simple fact, Attitude Determines Altitude.  We all have our philosophy .... "Some folks say "If you pay me more I'll work harder" and yet others say "I work harder so you'll pay me more."  They are both philosophies, but I can gaurantee you that the outcomes are very different.

If you're a franchisee or just thinking about becoming one, you need to read this article about Aslam Khan, it is filled with gold nuggets.

Franchisors should take note of Kahn's statement

He believes in taking care of his 'people'.  Now what a concept that would be for franchisors.........to actually work WITH their franchisees.  To understand that their success is also the franchisors success.  That attitude alone on the franchisor's side of the aisle would eliminate 80% of the problems between franchisees and franchisors and thus make BOTH successful and profitable.

Just like a company can't be successful without their 'people', a franchisee can't be successful if they are having to FIGHT their own franchisor.

Yeap, what a concept.
