Record Year for New York Tourism

52 million tourists visited New York City in 2012, a 2.1% increase over 2011. Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg credited the city's cultural institutions and its reputation as the safest major American city for the record.
George Fertitta, chief executive of NYC & Company, the City's marketing arm said that one-third of all overseas tourists to the United States come to New York. The mayor projects a goal of 55 million visitors by 2015.
