Google Search and Maps Now Show Restaurant Wait Times

Crowd photoGoogle Search or Maps already predict restaurant wait times on computers. Soon those predictive wait times will be available on smart phones too to help people on the go plan the timing of their visit to restaurants.

You can already tell whether or not a restaurant is usually busy at the time of day that you consult your smart phone. I.e. if you are checking your phone at 8 a.m., you will see whether or not the restaurant is usually busy or not around 8 a.m.

To see wait times for nearly a million sit-down restaurants around the world that allow walk-ins, just search for the restaurant on Google, open the business listing, and scroll down to the Popular Times section. There you’ll see the estimated wait time at that very moment. And by tapping on any of the hour bars, you’ll see the estimated wait for that time period. You can even scroll left and right to see a summary of each day’s wait times below the hour bars–so you can plan ahead to beat the crowds. — Quang Duong, Software Engineer, Google Maps
