Denny's Franchised Restaurants Lag in 1Q Same-Store Sales

Denny'sSame-store sales at Denny’s Corp. company restaurants in the U.S. outperformed franchised units during the first quarter of the year, 3.2 percent vs. 1.2 percent. Franchised restaurants make up nearly 90 percent of the total number of Denny's in America. The difference in performance was attributed to the more robust delivery capabilities of company locations, with franchise owners slower to implement the service.

Denny’s CEO John Miller said company units fared better due to multiple partnerships with third-party delivery providers, which are driving incremental sales during late-night hours and among 18- to 34-year-olds.
